Welcome to the In Support Of Avah blood drive!
Avah is a 3-year cancer survivor. At the age of 9, Avah was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer. Her type of tumor is called a Wilms Tumor. Avah received many chemotherapy treatments, but she never had to receive any blood transfusions. Even though Avah did not have to get blood transfusions, she met many kids in the pediatric cancer clinic who did. Knowing now about blood transfusions and the need being so big, not just for cancer patients but for many others who need it to survive, Avah has made it a point to host an annual blood drive to honor and support her friends who are still fighting cancer and for her friends that are now angels.
As an advocate of childhood cancer awareness, every September, Avah travels to Washington, D.C., to speak about the needs of childhood cancer. This past September, Avah visited Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and lobbied for pediatric cancer funding. She was successful with her peers in getting an additional 4% for the child cancer research community. Now the childhood cancer community receives just under 10% -Adult cancer research receives the remaining 90+%. She also spoke on the lawn of the National Monument about the importance of blood donations for all people who need it to survive.
Avah is thriving and doing very well. We are extremely grateful to support her in her desire to continue to be a voice for pediatric cancer, and we appreciate your help in enabling her to do so!
